Golden Wonder Mine

Lake City, Colorado has one of Colorado's few working gold mines. Why am I talking about gold mining beside a picture of two of my Zumba buddies. Well, believe it or not they are gold miners. When I asked them what they do for the mine. They said "we operate any equipment the men can!

Music to my ears

The younger set may think it corny...But our museum had some locals singing nineteenth century songs of the parlor last night. They all had beautiful voices!....Loved it.

Oh the stories they could tell...

I love old houses, especially log cabins. Why oh why can't they have a journal attached telling us their history?

Tickle Weed

There are different plants that bloom during the summer (and weeds). This pretty little weed... grows along the dirt roads in late July. The locals call it tickle weed. It tickles your legs when you walk past...I think it's pretty.

Trouble

We do have a doctor here....and a wonderful little medical center. But, our doctor doesn't hesitate to call in the chopper when someone is gravely ill. The whole town knows when it comes in. It makes a low pass before it sets down in this little valley, waking us all up. It sat down at 3:20 this morning. You can't help but to say a prayer for it's unknown passenger.

The Parlor

I know..I've already talked about the ice cream parlor here. But, unless you have been there you don't know the special feeling you get by just being there. It's a wonderful place just to sit and visit..

Branding

We have a wonderful little museum here in Lake City. Yesterday they had a branding demonstration. Although I think branding is cruel...It was interesting to see the different manners in which it is done. They had the old metal pot on the campfire method, a propane powered contraption and even an electric one. Real cowboys from a local ranch...which was the real treat!

It's a special day when we run into a moose around here!

Welcome

In many areas of our beautiful country you see fences and "no trespassing" signs. One of the terrific things about our Hindsdale County is that 96% of it is public land...so you can go for a hike or actually use that expensive 4wheel drive vehicle. While there are a few private property signs, we also have ranches where they will give you access across their property to fish the river. Those little stair steps to me say "Welcome!"

State Flower

The Columbine comes in many colors, but the lavender and white varity is the State Flower. Margaret Pitkins as a young child wrote a winning essay as to why this flower should become our state flower. Margaret is now ninety six yrs. old and lives here in Lake City, Co.
