Working From Home

I have noticed that more and more people are working from home these days.  I am sure there are both pros and cons. Since the Internet is world wide...I suppose you could do your work from anywhere? It would cut out your commuting expenses, wardrobe cost, etc, etc.and it must cut down on the bottom line for the companies too, since they don't have to have as much real estate.

My two daughters don't work from home, although the one that lives in North Carolina does on Fridays, and the other may on occasion. This past Friday. She and her husband came in from Austin, TX and did just that..

Oh great. They will be here to visit with us all day. Wrong! When this generation say they have to work....they work! That is her in my office. She appears to be working on the computer....but she was actually on a conference call, and I had to laugh. It seems she can't speak without moving her hands!

How do you feel about working from home (full time)? I personally don't think I would like it. I would miss having contact...face to face with other people.

It did mean that Gramps and I were able to go out on the town, and spend the day with little 2 1/2 yr old Hannah.
Oh, by the way Katy...May I put a picture of you on my blog? :)

  1. I feel as you do; I need flesh and blood contact. Using the internet, even if it is face-to-face is not the same. I am even a bit annoyed when some of my friends use email instead of the telephone. I like to hear human voices!

  3. There are good points and bad as you say Janey.. I guess it all depends what works best for the individual at each stage of their working life. Did you at least get to have lunch and dinner with your daughter :)

    1. Yes, Grace, they came in the night before and we had a nice dinner together. My son in law's brother was in town here on business. They actually came to see him. I was happy the time they spent with us.

  4. i negotiated the ability to work from home at my last job - after over 15 yrs of commuting into dallas, i got them to agree to me working from home (i offered to take a paycut to entice them). it worked GREAT for 4 mos. then my employer announced they were selling themselves to a competitor, so i returned to the corp. office at full pay until the severance came about. but it was sweet while it lasted.

  5. Dearest Janey,
Well, it depends for what kind of job and in my opinion it should not be 100% as real face-time is important.
Guess I do that too when on the phone, using my hands even when they can't see me. But that's fine; showing some passion.
Great that you had the little one all to yourselves.
    Hugs,
    Mariette
