The Bear Dance

You really have to pay attention so as not to miss what is going on in this little town
I happened to read thta the Red Sky Drum group of the Ute Tribe would be in town to preform the Bear Dance.
Apparently legend has it that two brothers went out to hunt game. One became tired and asked to stay behind to rest. He was leaning up against a tree when a bear appeared. That bear instructed the young brave how to do the Bear Dance....showing respect to the bears. He was to return to his tribe and teach the others.
We were then taught the dance and had fun marching around to the drum beat.
Always something to do around here!

  1. I would love to see that. I didn't photograph, but there was a First Nations festival here at the time of the summer solstice that I passed through while in the area. Some of the traditional attire can get very colourful.
