Hello from Ft Worth

As some of you know...We have moved. We are temporarily in a rental in Ft Worth, Texas. Actually a furnished guest house that is owned by a friend of my sister. It is a wonderful old house built in 1929.

It has all of the comforts of home.

It was only necessary for us to bring our clothes. So, everything else is in  storage unit, until we find a house.

We have already enjoyed the wonderful deck

It actually has two bedrooms/and two baths. It is the entire top of the house...and gosh it has so many windows. Love it!

Crazy, but it has it's own private elevator. Great for bringing in groceries.
The only problem, and it is a major one. My computer will not connect onto the wireless network. We have tried for a day and half.
I am sitting about a mile away at a McDonald's

So, I will either get this problem solved...or I will be dining at McDonald's a lot! :)
Stay tuned.....Janey

Sob!

After being in Houston for forty years, my husband and I are moving four hours north to Ft. Worth Texas. (on Wednesday )!
I had one last lunch with my Curvy Girls this week. These are women that I work out with five morning a week at a nearby Curves. Over the years this early morning group of women have become dear friends. We have breakfast every Monday, a birthday lunch once a month. A Mother's day luncheon and a Christmas Party.

They surprised me with this framed picture of the group(taken one Christmas) and sweet going away cards. They may be just impossible to replace :(......Janey

Hmmm I don't think so? Had lunch at a seafood restaurant yesterday (we are back in Houston). Maybe I should have ordered this?

Reading the Paper

One more picture from Arizona. Summer residents from our tiny town in Colorado (that winter in Arizona) all got together for a day of fun (and food) at the beautiful home of Gwen and Dick. We have newspapers in our hands for a reason. We are sending the picture to the little Lake City, Colorado newspaper ...figuring that if we are all reading "that" paper...the editor would surely put us on the front page. The paper comes out only once a week, and at the moment news is rather scare there. I will let you know if it worked.

White Mission

I showed you a Spanish Mission south ofTubac, AZ that was in ruins. This one (the oldest European structure in Arizona) is north. As you can see, unlike Tumacacori, San Xavier remains in perfect condition, even repaired after extensive damage in an 1887 earthquake.

The mission was started in 1783 and has it's authentic eighteenth century alter.

The Mission which was in northern Mexico when it was built by the Jesuit Priests, and later taken over by the Franciscans, is part of Southern Arizona in the U.S. It actually sits on the reservation of the Tohono O'odham Indians.

Like so many grounds in this desert area.....the landscaping is done with catus.

Art is Everywhere

On the way to Arizona I discussed the nice roadside rest stops. So, I just had to show you the pretty tile work in the ladies restroom  in one near Ft. Stockton, Texas....

and this one somewhere in west Texas?
You can always art in this world....sometimes you just have to keep your eyes open :)

The One Room School

On the grounds of the Tubac, Az museum is this one room school house. There are such school houses still in use today in remote sections of this country.

I actually remember sitting in decks such as these. Although we didn't use the ink well. (the round hole on the upper right of this desk was to hold a bottle of ink for your pen).

Anza Trail

There is an old trail leading from what was the Presidio at Tubac, Az south to the mission of Tumacacori ,which is only a few miles away. The garrison of soldiers, who lived in the Presidio, rode down the trail on a regular basis, protecting the mission from the Apache Indians who lived in the mountains to the east.

On a beautiful morning , Tom and I hiked down the trail.
Juan Bautista de Anza  was a Spanish Explorer and early Governor of Northern Mexico. he lead a group of settlers, in 1774, from Tubac, Az on the the first overland expedition to San Francisco Bay.

You Don't Have to Walk

For four days in Tubac, Az. they had the annual Art Show. The artists and vendors set up in temporary tents all through town. They were just getting ready to open each morning when Tom and I walked for coffee. Patrons had to park a ways away. So, they had various transportation selections from the parking lot. There was the old trailer pulled by a tractor.

One pulled by horses...or

You could even hire a "taxi" for two!
I couldn't help but think people really needed to WALK!

Colorado Get Together

We spent our last day in Arizona at the home of friends of ours from Colorado.
Their winter home is on the side of the mountain above Tucson, Arizona. Gwen and Dick are both professors at the University of Arizona

They have decks on every side of the house

That is Tucson down below. I guess the view at night is spectacular.

They have ten acres on the side of the mountain which is covered with Saguaro catus

They even have Roadrunners . I love Roadrunners. There was a cute animated cartoon when I was a child ....about a Roadrunner! Does anyone else remember these cartoons?

Frosty

Don't let anyone tell you that it doesn't get cold in southern Arizona
We woke one morning to a cold front that delivered a dusting of snow!

The pretty fountains in the neighborhood even had icicles hanging from them

And someone  built a tabletop snowman!

But, the sun came out and it warmed to nearly 60 degrees!

Yikes

Coming back from the coffee shop, I spied something moving in the brush. Do you see it? At first I thought it was a dog.

but, actually it was a coyote! It is amazing how it's coat is perfectly cmaflouged with it's surroundings!
