Bison

On our recent trip down to central Texas, I spotted this entrance to a ranch

Even though we were traveling the back roads. The little highway was busy, and there wasn't a good place to pull over.
I also wasn't at a good angle to show you what caught my eye. So let's pull in, and see if that helps. On both sides of the gate, there was a bronze statue of a Bison. Bison (or Buffalo as some call them), were almost extinct at one time. Down to an estimated 1,000, but they are now thriving on ranches in the United States, mostly out west, and you will find them in a lot of our National Parks.

For those that are following: more on Ernie and Margaret's first day on the Camino:

They were bitterly cold at the start as I mentioned this morning that the temperature was in the thirty's and in addition to that it was very windy. They also had trouble getting their rhythm. Adjusting of back packs that didn't feel comfortable, shortening of their hiking sticks. Stops for water. But, they finally found a comfortable stride and made it 7 kilometers finding out that walking generates heat, and they were peeling off coats, hats and gloves.. Lunch was in a pilgrim's inn and after that Ernie continued on alone for the remainder of the day. Stopping for a break for what was described as thick, black coffee. Margaret joined him again for photos at the Caminos highest point. at Cruz de Hierro.

before stopping here for an overnight in the mountain village of Villafrance del Bierzo, Spain

  7. So great that the bison didn't go extinct. I've yet to see one in a national park, but I hope to someday.
