Amost There

We had a beautiful day on the road yesterday. Left Ft. Worth at 6am (Central Time) and pulled into our hotel in Alamosa.Colorado at 5pm (Mountain Time). Which meant, we had driven for twelve hours.... I know that is a bit too long...... but there was very little traffic, blue skies and  wonderful temperatures.

I spotted this bird at one of the rest stops. My bird book is packed away. So, if you know what it is, please tell me.

Spotted several wild Antelope, once we crossed from the Texas panhandle into northern New Mexico. My Dad use to sing a song when I was little. I think the name of it was Home on The Range. There is a verse that goes like this: Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam....and the deer and the antelope play.

I always think of him when we spot antelope.

We have a short three hour trip today. We chose to stay in Alamosa because it has the last supermarket before the mountains, where there aren't any. Actually, come to think of it we don't have a lot of room for food....oh dear!

  1. I can't help you with the bird~not sure what kind it is but it has such a lovely yellow belly. I am very familiar with the song your dad would sing and now I have that verse stuck in my mind...hopefully it will go away. ha! Best of luck making room for food and enjoy the rest of your journey.
    Happy Friday!

  2. it is a flycatcher of some sort - we get great crested flycatchers here that look very much like this one, but not sure if he can raise his crest or not. but he's a beauty!

  4. I am not a birdwatcher either but I just enjoy their colours. Those songs from your youth you always remember. It is locked up in the brains and comes up whenever you hear it. I can still sing many songs from my childhood.

  5. Time to get out the map; I love this area, esp northern NM where I have spent some pretty happy times in the past.
