Bird Talk

I have Robins nesting in the eves of the west deck (off of our bedroom)
Problem is...the prevailing wind blows from the west...and can gust to 40 mph.

Almost daily now, one of the nests hits the deck floor. No problem yet...as there are no eggs. I want to tell the birds to move their nests to the east side of the house. They will be protected from the wind ...and enjoy the morning sun....but I have yet to figure out how to speak bird?
When in doubt...Eat

We are going to a dinner party tonight. ...and I was asked to bring a dessert. I made a Cream Cheese Brownie Pie.. The recipe (cooked by a lady in S.C.) won first place in The Pillsbury Bake-Off. I will top each slice with a small scoop of White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Ice Cream.

* I have a friend here, who had her medical checkup in the Fall after returning to Texas. Her doctor fussed at her saying"what have you been up to? Your cholesterol total is way up!" To which she answered " I know I know..It's just been a cream cheese summer"

I figure if I ignore the fire (see yesterday's bog). It will go away. Not really. We are glued to fire updates. It has now grown to 60,000 acres and the forecast is gloom and doom. I will keep you in the loop...Janey

  1. Can you erect some protection - such as a sheet of strong polythene or strong canvass to keep the wind away from the nests.
I hadn't seen your post about the fires, it must be very frightening.
How about sharing the recipe for the Cream Cheese Brownie Pie it looks rather delicious.

  3. Oh my gosh Janey, I just saw the fire pictures from yesterdays post..I know what that's like, terrifying! Sending many many good vibes your way and praying that they get the flames under control before lives and homes are lost. Do they have any idea what started the fire?
It's a shame you can't think of a wind break to put up to save the robins nest, they certainly do build them in the strangest places.

    1. They are pretty sure that it was started by lightening. The forests around here are full of dead pines from beetle kill....making for easy fuel for the fire...

  4. The birds are sometimes a bit weird. We had a couple of jackdaws making a nest under our roof. The branches fell on our terrace all the time and they used our insulating material which fell also down. We had the nest removed, it damaged our house.
Hope the fires will keep far from you, so scary.

  5. Those poor birds ~ they put so much work into their nests. Hoping things are better with the fires. What a wonderful dessert you made! It looks fabulous! I am sure it was enjoyed by all. You can't go wrong with cream cheese and brownie ~ wonderful combo! Take care. Wishing you all the best.
