The Games People Play

I had so much fun last night. I got a call  to sub at my favorite Bunco Group. I can't be a regular, since I only live here half of the year. This group of ladies are so much fun. There have been times when we have visited for so long, that we forgot to play bunco! Last night, Sarah served delicious fajitas that she picked up at everyone's favorite Mexican restaurant, Pappasito's. Dessert was a chocolate Sacher cake from La Madeleine.

Bunco is a no brainer game , where you roll three dice. The first round you try to roll ones, two's for the second round, etc. If you roll three ones (when one is the number) you yell BUNCO! and get to wear a tiara until the next person buncos and takes it away from you.
Do you belong to a bunco or bridge group?

Wings of Gold

A few years ago, Tom and I were flying Continental Airlines back from Paris. We were thrilled to be up-graded  to first class. Not long after takeoff, I experienced  a deja vu moment when looking at one of the flight attendants.
I commented to Tom that I thought maybe it was my old roomie Jeanie. You see, back in 1965 I was a Stewardess for a small airline...that was later bought by Continental Airlines.  I had not seen Jeanie for forty something years. To make a long story short. It was Jeanie! What a fun flight we had. Jeanie told me about a book titled Continental WINGS Of GOLD. The picture below is in that book. Our small graduating class.

*The tall guy, behind me is the President of then Central Airlines ...the late Lamar Muse, who went on the start Southwest Airlines and Muse Airways.
* Nancy died young from an aneurysm . Jeanie still works first class flights Houston-Paris (47 yrs later). Continental is now  United Airlines. Me...I blog :)

Travel

When one of my (many ) sisters returned from her first International trip I bought her a small framed quote.

Then I turned around, and went back, and bought myself one. I so agree with what it says. How about you?

A Bird A Bird

On my way home from running errands yesterday...I spied a beautiful Great White Egret in my neighbors yard.

Yes, I know I am lousy at action shots, especially when I am also driving. Hopefully, this will get better with practice...or y'all force me into buying a better camera.

So he flies across the street and tried to makes himself  look like an angel.

Realizing I wasn't going away, he gave me the perfect pose.....Good Bird..

Boo

I passed this house yesterday...and it struck me as TOO MUCH. People seem to be decorating more and more for Halloween! It is actually my old neighborhood, the one we lived in when my two girls were small, and it has always been known to go all out on that spookiest of all nights... Halloween. There were always herds of kids going door to door on that night, bringing home way too much candy. Ours would strangely disappear the following week. I encouraged my husband to take the candy to his company where it is a proven fact anything edible, would disappear in seconds in the break room. It was probably mean of me to slip their treats out the door. ...but I was thinking of their teeth and of course the dental bills. Did these decorations in reality make me miss my kids a little?...Okay...maybe a little bit :(

Monument

The local chapter of The National Memorial Ladies org. were very proud  yesterday to unveil the Fallen Soldier Memorial at Cy Champ Park in NW Houston.

and they should be. It is a monument nice enough to be in our nations capitol.
The walls of granite list local (Texas) soldiers killed in both the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars
Walking around reading the names of such young men..... had me in tears
Especially since there is space left for new names...

I left wondering if we will ever have peace in this world.?
