Foie Gras is not the only product of this area of the Dorgogne, They have walnut orchards everywhere.

Small People

Visited the ruins where cave dwellers lived. They were really short people!

Up We Go

We rode this open air cog wheel train (circa 1929) to the top of the highest peak near St Jean de Luz. It was early morning and a bit chilly! Wild horses along the way.

Fun on the Sidelines!

I know ...I seem to be jumping around. Took several pictures at a wedding recently. This one is blurred...but one of my favorites. The photographer is zooming in on the bride and groom (not in the picture)but there seems to be something going on on the sidelines!

Sand and Sea

The beach at St Jean de Luz, France is so much prettier than I expected and the weather certainly is!

To Be Young

I thought this couple on the dinner boat in Paris were so cute. They loved that I wanted their picture.

Pigeons!

This statue in the Tuilerie Gardens made me laugh. Poor guy looks like he is very tired of pigeons! Can you believe that blue blue sky?

Oh MY!

This print was on the rear window of our vehicle and is why we don't leave any food in our car in Lake City. We have a sizable bear population....and some of them are very large!

Western Tanagers

It is no secret that I love to watch (and photograph birds). One species that we have in Lake City, Co that we don't have in Texas, is the Western Tanager. The first time I spied one I couldn't get over how colorful it was!

Ute Ulay Mine

This old dam is above Lake City, to the west, along Henson Creek. It was the site of the Ute Ulay Mine.(dam broke in the 1920's). Prospectors eager to mine the ore rich hills came into the Ute Indians hunting land in 1871 before the Brunot Treaty of 1873 (which allowed them to). They thought that if they named the mine after the Ute Chief that they would be safe. Problem is, they didn't know how to spell. The Ute Chief's name was Ouray not Olay!

Deer Lakes

High above Lake City, CO to the east are a series of small lakes. A stream was channeled at the top of the hill making four small ponds that cascade down the hill. These ponds are stocked in the spring making for great fishing. Although, the real reason folks drive up to Deer Lakes is to hopefully see a moose....

Wait for Me!

See that person in the distance? That's my husband Tom and we are actually hiking together. A hike to him is like an endurance test; up the mountain as fast as you can possibly go. Me...I like to pause and enjoy the vistas. You'll find me constantly pulling out my camera to photograph any and everything I think is pretty and oh yes.. stopping frequently to catch my breath.I at least try and keep him in my sight as there are more wild animals out there than people!

Fall

Have no idea what this thorny bush is, but there are many growing wild along state road 30 south of Lake City, CO. Since red is one of my favorite colors...I had to take a picture!

Better Weather

The heat wave finally broke in south Texas. We went to dinner this week at a friend's house and we comfortably sat outside. They live in what we call a patio home. Residents share common grounds, which includes this pretty little lake.

Puppy Sitting

Friends asked us to take care of their puppy while they were gone for one day. Can't tell you how much fun we had playing with little Nash who is a Great Pyrenees ...I think. Really really made me miss having a dog...

Cure for Cabin Fever

Tired of being inside? You simply have to go for a ride in any direction from Lake City, CO. On this day we went south past Lake San Cristobol....an area near the site of Sherman Township. Out this way mountains rise, the river winds and mankind disappears....

Ghost Town

Twelve miles south of Lake City, CO. sits the remains of Sherman Township. Sherman died when silver was devalued in the 1890's. The majority of the cabins were later moved to Lake City, with only a few remaining... and those will not be around for long. These old cabins need new roofs, or they eventually crumble and fall to the ground. This one will porbably just disappear into the Aspen forest.
