And The Winner Is
I am happy to report that we are back in the mountains for the summer. I am also delighted to share my good news: I won a prize!. Joy over at Joy and Comfort gave away a book and I was the lucky winner of:
I couldn't wait to start it, so I did just that!
That's me finally doing what I love most. Getting lost in a good book in a comfortable chair ....with a view of Roundtop Mountain. Thank you Joy!

The Moon
Twenty seven years ago my family discovered a tiny town in the Colorado mountains, where life slows down, and the summer temperatures are downright pleasant. We liked it so much that we vacationed there for a week, every summer, and eventually built a vacation home. The only problem..... it was a very long drive from south Texas. Our girls were small, and they use to get very bored with the long car journey. Along about Amarillo, Texas, their patience usually gave out.. Tom knew a short cut out of Amarillo, heading into the dusty Texas panhandle, and eager for the journey to be over, we always took it. It is a little two lane road that had you rolling through a stark landscape...very similar to what the moon would look like (craters and all). On one trip Tom turned his baseball cap sideways...and the girls ask him what he was doing? He replied "if you are on the moon, you have to put on your moon hat." So, for years we always turned our hats sideways, when we finally arrived on "the moon"!
To make a long story short, I snapped this picture today with my cell phone and emailed it to our girls, who took one look and knew exactly where we were!
Yes, we are on the road (or the moon) finally headed back to Colorado. All of the boxes are unpacked and things have been put away! Yeah! Life can get back to normal, and I can visit your blogs again! Janey

What Color?
I am having a decorating dilemma . Our sofa needs to be recovered. At the moment, it is red. Red was really in when I bought it, and I still like red, and am not terribly concerned with what is "in". We have a large antique rug on the hardwood floors in the great room (living room) that we would like to keep. As you can see, I do like bright colors.
.So, maybe I can cover the sofa in another of the colors, like the light blue or possibly the cream color, and then I could have some colorful throw pillows? Do you like bright colors. Any advice?

The Morning Porch
We are finally in our new home. It is a city house. Only three miles from downtown. We can walk to restaurants, drug stores, shops, bakeries, and even church. It is what they call a zero property line home. Sort of like a townhouse, but we don't share walls with the neighbors; although they are only ten feet away.
There is not much of a view to the north, just the neighbors fence, but hey, you can see a bit of the sky and a green tree.
There is a church across the street, and in the winter (when the leaves are gone) you can see the steeple.
Please don't feel sorry for me...that I am so excited over such a tiny porch. Scroll back to my header and you will see the view I have for five months out of the year :)
We have a very small yard, and an inner courtyard. There is also a shared porch off of the guest rooms, which are upstairs: the master bedroom is on the first floor. One thing that I insisted on, was my morning porch. It is the arch to the right of the lower windows.
The little porch (I know is is very small) is just off of the kitchen, facing south. It amazes me the light that comes through these doors into the kitchen.
It is a great place to sit in the early morning with a cup of coffee...or even have a glass of wine in the late afternoon. There is not much of a view to the north, just the neighbors fence, but hey, you can see a bit of the sky and a green tree.

A Parade
Flags waved across the United States today, celebrating our independence day. Tom and I are usually in Colorado on this holiday, but we are still here in Texas, moving into our new home. We did find an old fashioned parade in one of my sister's neighborhoods though.
Speaking of old fashioned! How's this for a parade of oldies?
This young lad was driving a heavy load!
There were a lot of children on decorated bicycles....and adults too!
A family all decked out for the holiday..
and this guy sounded very old world, playing songs on his accordion!
If you celebrate this holiday, I hope it was filled with family, friends and good food.
Happy Fourth of July!

Still Here!
Just a note to let you know. I am still here!
It seems like I have been unpacking the kitchen for weeks, despite the fact that we got rid of so many things. It's early morning here, and I am making a pot of coffee in my new kitchen! I still looks a bit bare, in this mainly white kitchen, although we will have a Roman shade made for the kitchen windows that has a bit of color in it. I hope to get back to blogging soon....Janey
