July-So Far

Hello, don't know about you, but I have had a busy July so far, and gosh we are only one week into it!
Sorry that I have been neglecting my blog.
A hold over from late June our poppies are still blooming all over town. The deer do not like to eat them which is a plus.
They also don't like our native daises.Tom and I take a daily walk and the flowers we come across are so pretty.

The fourth of July festivities(our Independence day) have come and gone. We attended the parade, worked at the Women's club hot dog booth in the park and then had our usual fireworks viewing party on our deck. Twenty eight people.
I apologize for the one and only (awful) picture of the event.
This is a picture of the aftermath of another annual event. We have a big collection of cottonwood trees in town, thanks to our settlers. The cotton blows every year in early July playing havoc with everyones allergies. Yep, that is cottonwood pollen  all over the ground looking a bit like snow !

We do see a lot of wildlife on our morning walks. This fat little critter is a marmot. The miners back in the day called them Whistle Pigs as they make a whistling sound and supposedly taste a bit like pork.....and no we do not eat them these days. This is the courthouse marmot that they have affectionately named Marmoot.
We do have a big deer population. Here five young bucks have made themselves comfortable in someone's yard.
I hope that you are having a good July. I promise to try and pay more attention to this blog and get back around to yours...Janey

  1. Yes, I grow Poppies and Shasta Daisies for the same reason - the deer don't eat them. (However, sometimes the chipmunks like my Poppy buds.) Enjoy your summer!

  3. Yup it's been busy alright Janey, and getting even more so this week as we are off to Sydney and the Blue Mountains. I haven't seen a marmot before. Gosh I can't imagine looking out my window and seeing deer relaxing in my back yard 😉 Enjoy the rest of July ✨

  4. The deer are a welcome sight to see. I don't think cottonwood grows here.

  5. Dearest Janey,
What an interesting post, with lovely poppies and daisies.
Never mind that photo quality, it still conveys the happiness and friendship shared!
Gosh, that cottonwood pollen does look like snow.
On the cruise where Pieter and I got an acute bronchitis, they were also talking about allergies from the pollen of those Linden blossoms... The air was quite fragrant with it and who knows it did affect our bronchial tubes? Still not rid of it, can't sing yet and even though the antibiotics worked perfect for Pieter (grateful for that!), mine has not left me alone yet...
We look forward to some bike riding at Hilton Head Island and swimming at the pool... Reading and relaxing after all what happened.
Later this month we drive to Virginia to ride the Creeper Trail (down hill!) and then we go to East Tennessee. So you see, we too look into escaping the heat and fleeing to the mountains. The Cardiologist warned for the heat, after having seen Pieter's ultrasound from his heart. He's still okay thanks to those expensive but great meds. May he stay that way for a while longer!
    Hugs,
    Mariette
