Fall Flowers

Now is the time that most people are planting Fall flowers in their yards.
A lot of folks in town plant pansies. They come in many colors and seem to take the cooler weather, even a light freeze.
While some folks actually landscape this time of year with ornamental cabbages. I will probably put in pansies.
Although, as you can see, the Pentas that we planted in Spring are still flourishing.

I hate to pull these out, so I guess I will wait until they can't take the cold weather and plant my pansies.
Do you put in Fall flowers in your yard? If so, what kind?

  1. Loved the pansies Janey, I have just planted a few pots of pansies myself ☺

  2. You still have a lot of colour in your garden. I will be planting my winter pansies and cyclamen and some more bulbs for the Spring.

  3. No planting here, though my summer ornamental cabbages (in a pot) are holding their own, though we go below freezing now. There is snow in the yard and this AM my hands were cold on my walk even though I wore thin gloves. I plant pansies in the summer here - they do well with our erratic weather.

  4. They're quite a cheerful sight to see.

Here the gardens are being prepared for winter- coverings over some plants that go dormant, or bulbs being planted for the spring in place of what's been there all summer.

  5. Dearest Janey,
Leave those lovely Pentas in as long as they look this good!
Like you, I dod love those pansies and we've had them all through winter at times, in our planter boxes that is.
But this year we probably skip as it is a lot of work and with Pieter's heart condition it is not getting easier. He just learned that he has a leaking heart valve... After his quadruple bypass on September 3, 2010 with a stent placed in his neck, we don't know what this will mean. Tomorrow morning he has a nuclear stress test and those results we get on Monday morning early.
Both of us go biking together, not today as I had to be at choir practice by 5:30 PM but I'd rather leave things less tidy than skipping this! I'm praying that we can be doing this for many years to come.
    Sending you hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Dear Mariette,
I am so sorry about Pieter's heart condition. It can be depressing when our health keeps us from things we love to do. With the advances in medicine.....I am hoping that there is a resolution.

  7. My garden holds potted plants and I am partial to brightly coloured mums in the fall.
