My Dear Cousin

Taking a break from the historical neighborhood tour, to tell you about my weekend.
My maternal grandmother had ten children...so I have a lot of first cousins. One group of those cousins live out in what is referred to as 'west" Texas. It was a good five hour drive from the part of Texas we live in, but their family made the long journey on holidays. I can remember especially Easter and Thanksgiving holidays when I couldn't wait for them to arrive at our grandparents home. Judy was the cousin closest to my age...and oh the fun we had! Well, Judy paid us a visit this past weekend.

If you are wondering what brought her all that way....? Well some of you will remember my younger sisters...who do a DANCE don't walk thing through the streets of downtown Ft. Worth (last Sat of each month). Cousin Judy drove all that way just to take part.
If you are looking for me in the group...you will be disappointed...I still haven't joined them.
The gentlemen on the ground is Ft. Worth's official, and  famous photographer Brian Luenser.

I did invite all of my sisters, and their husbands for pizza that evening though.
Fun times! Thanks for coming Judy!
Were you close to your cousins growing up?

  1. A fun weekend! My cousins were much older than me, my father was a youngest child with an age-gap with his brothers and I was the youngest as well, so at that time I had cousins with families already while I was still a school girl. And from my mothers side they were a bit different girls as me.:) Not so nice to hang around with.

  2. Family are the best! Most of my cousins are still in Scotland but all my sisters and my husbands family are here in Perth, so my children grew up surrounded by their cousins, still are.. it's fantastic :) Looks like your family is close also Janey.

  5. how cool. :)

no, not close to cousins - too much of an age gap. my father was youngest of 12; my mother was youngest of 8; i was youngest of 8. most of my cousins were far older than i.

  7. Good times - I like that your family is still so close. I just rediscovered a long-lost cousin through Facebook. Yes, I do remember some special times with my girl cousins.

  8. Dearest Janey,
Being the 2nd oldest on my Dad's side of the family I did have some close cousins there but Mom's family lived farther away and we barely did get together, other than at wedding anniversaries and such.
It is special for having a close relationship with cousins though! Glad your cousin got to come and visit with you all.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  9. It is wonderful and you are very fortunate to have so many lovely cousin relationships. You all look as if you get on really well with one another even though you are not necessarily living close to each other.
