A Variety of Architectural Styles

Our daily walk yesterday had to be early so we could get back home before the high winds blew in. The weather report forecasted a cold front headed our way and promised to have winds reaching over 30 miles per hour.

Within easy walking distance for us is a street lined with old mansions. All built at the top of a high crest above the Trinity River. Here is an old beauty built in 1910 that has recently gone back on the market.
So if you a looking for more space... this place has just been reduced!
There is a wonderful array of architectural styles since all homes are custom designed. This Spanish style has a typical high wall making it impossible to see the home.

A couple of blocks away the homes are noticeably smaller but still have their own unique style. Like this mid century modern from the 1950’s,

and there are also a few like this sweet 1930’s cottage that hasn’t been scraped off of the lot to make room for a  modern mega mansion.
Arriving safely back home our Easter was anything but normal. Usually surrounded by at least twenty family members...it seemed a little too quiet. Although I feel sure there are a lot of folks who spent the day completely alone, so we were happy we had each other.
How did you spend your day?

  1. Love those mansions, but not the wall, what have you to hide? Yes strange times and all over the world, we all have to deal with the same life now.....it makes life not more pleasent isn't it?

  2. I love that mid-century modern house.
I spent my day at home reading until I had a virtual birthday party to attend which turned out to be lots of fun. There was lots of laughter and stories to tell. Then I fixed myself a very nice dinner and enjoyed it very much. I would rather have been enjoying it with friends but it wasn't a bad day at all.

  3. I enjoyed the walk around your neighbourhood. Could never manage the cleaning in a mansion.

  4. Dearest Janey,
Glad you managed this fun walk through a very interesting area.
As for ALL our holidays over the last 36 years away from family, we're used to spending it alone. We have been very fortunate for having been included most of the time, as extended family, at our best friends'...
We're both busy with the Manuscript. Pieter did bike some this afternoon but he said it was still windy after that huge storm at 4:00 AM...
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  5. Janey, I discovered your delightful blog from your comment on another person's blog. I love architecture, so this post was a perfect intro for me! Especially like the sweet 1930s cottage. Your room with the table set for two looks so inviting.

  6. Love the 1930's cottage Janey, so sweet 💙 Easter certainly was different! We usually have a huge family picnic in the park. This year we were all in little boxes on the computer screen, a bit like the Brady Bunch 😊
