Freezing

Good morning. I was going to tell you about arriving in Austin and being surprised that my daughter and two little granddaughters had flown in from North Carolina to surprise us!...but things have become a bit more news worthy since we arrived home.

We have an unseasonal sub zero cold front that has descended over our entire state. The temperature here in Ft. Worth this morning is -2 and that is the true temp...not wind chill.

We have had four inches of snow and more expected tonight and all day tomorrow. The state is simply shut down. We do not have the equipment down here to handle this. There are millions without electricity...and they have had to open emergency warming centers all over the state. For now we are one of the lucky ones and have power, but we are trying our best to conserve. We have closed blinds and unplugged unnecessary appliances, and they have asked us to lower our thermostats to conserve energy.

Not sure if you heard, but due to ice on roads we had a 133 car pile up just north of downtown on ice covered roads that resulted in six deaths.

So that’s the news from here...stay tuned.

  1. My sister is living in Springfield MO and I saw that the temps there were also -2. I talked to her briefly and they are bundling up and taking measures against the freeze. Stay safe and stay warm!

  2. That pile up looks horrific - with all of the troubles that are around currently that is the last thing needed.
We had very cold weather blow in from Siberia, snow fell on the eastern side of the country but on the west side we escaped. We suddenly have far milder air apparently from Africa.

  3. Yes I saw videos of the pile up quite amazing how people were reacting as the drove into it. We had it cold here down to -5 at our place colder elsewhere but very little snow

  4. Poor you. When you are not prepared for these kind of temperatures all sorts of problems arise. I hope you don't lose your power and are able to maintain some form of heating. Keep warm my friend and stay away from those treacherous roads.

  6. Dearest Janey,
What indeed a surprise visit by your daughter with the grandchildren!!!
We saw that horror on TV... so sad for so many that were involved.
Here it was very windy today and later sunny after a couple of rainy days. Tonight frost but not bad.
Stay cozy and enjoy the special time.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  7. You hit the news here with the freezing troubles. Here everything has gone already, no snow no ice and high temperatures. It is a weird world at the moment, as if we had dreamed of ice and now woke up without any...
