Bird Watching

We have been in our summer home in the mountains almost three weeks now
and I never tire of seeing all of the wildlife here. Birds included. I am guessing this is a Red Winged  Blackbird.
I really don't have to guess anymore, since a guest gave us this great pocket sized edition
of Birds of Colorado. From it's worn condition, you can tell it gets a lot of use.
I like that you can fan out the pages and pick out what color bird you are trying to find.
Are you a birdwatcher?

  1. Those coloured pages are really a nice find. I am not a fanatic birdwatcher with a binocular around my neck but when I see one I don't know I will look it up at home.

  2. We have three copies of A Guide to Field Identification; Birds of North America around the house but I never considered myself a birdwatcher per-se until . . . I took up photography in the last year. Now---daily :) Nature never fails to teach and entertain.

  3. Looks like a really useful book. I enjoy watching wild birds but am not a bona fide bird watcher. Would not mind learning more, tho.

  4. What a great idea to coordinate the color of the bird with the color of the pages. Your little bird friend with the red wing sure is cute.

  5. That does look like a redwing. We have them here as well, and hopefully they're past the point where they're quite territorial. For a few weeks the males will guard the nest sites and launch an attack on anyone passing by.

  6. I suppose it depends on your definition of a bird watcher. I love watching birds and can be found watching them in my garden where I usually know their names but elsewhere I have no idea of their names. A book like yours looks perfect for carrying around with you for a quick ID.

  7. I do love it if I manage to catch a good bird shot Janey, but my hubby is definitely a keen birder! Super shot of the red winged blackbird.
