The Last Part of the Trip

Well, back to the business at hand...getting to our summer home.
We spent the night in Alamosa, Colorado along the way, mainly because we wanted to stop by our favorite greenhouse the next morning
and purchase hanging flower baskets for the summer. I guess the greenhouse dog wanted to get in the picture.
Alamosa sits in a high dessert valley surrounded on three sides by the Sangre de Cristo and San Juan Mountain Ranges. As you can see, well barely...took this with my cell while Tom was going 70mph., that there is still quite a bit of snow at higher elevations.
The valley, some 50 miles wide and 150 miles long is predominately an agricultural area. The main crop being potatoes. This is all done by constant irrigation. The crop above is canola, similar or maybe the same  crop, "rapeseed" that is grown in Europe.
We have finally reached the west side of the valley, and are headed up into the San Juan's where you will find the headwaters of the Rio Grande River. I notice that the cottonwoods along the river have just gotten their new green leaves.

Moving along we arrive at another valley. The Creede Valley( made up of cattle ranches, summer homes, and fishing camps), which is only 55 miles southeast of our destination. Don't know about you, but I am getting excited.
We are here! We have a lot of unpacking to do and various chores like putting the furniture on the deck, sweeping up dead flies and washing windows....But I will be back. Thanks for coming along on the trip. I promise a fun summer awaits!

  1. I'm so excited for you! I can't wait to get out there. My daughter from Denver went hiking last weekend and sent pictures back of all the snow up top. Don't work too hard. Enjoy your summer in our favorite summer state. ;)

  2. Your hanging baskets are already looking very much at home - I am sure that it wont take you long to do the chores and have everything back to normal.

  3. Great you arrived as planned with also the flowerbaskets. Where did you keep them in the car, was there any space yet?
You just in time left Paris, it is flooding with heavy rains. The Seine is double wide now. The Louvre closed because of the floods. Fortunately we have no rain here, but the south part of our country has flooded aswell an the south of Germany too.

    1. I heard that! Yes, we are lucky we weren't all there this week!
As far as room. We put what we call a pod on top of the car, which holds all of our clothes. The back end of the car is full of golf clubs, etc, etc..but we had room for the flowers...on top of boxes. Just didn't have room to shop for food. That is the last supermarket. So we trekked the 120 miles round trip to the grocery store in Gunnison.. on Thurs.....
